A Photographer’s Journey Rooted in Emotion
I am John Makris. I’ve been fascinated by images for as long as I can remember. I picked up my first camera as a teenager, and what started as curiosity soon became a lifelong pursuit — not just of photography, but of emotion. Early on, I realized that what truly inspired me was wedding photography — capturing people’s emotions, light, and connection in their most genuine form. Over the years, it became my main focus and the way I express myself.
Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with more than 800 international awards in leading photography competitions. But the greatest rewards are never the trophies — they’re the reactions of the couples who see their memories come to life. The way they feel when they look at their photos means far more to me than any recognition could.
Beyond weddings, I’ve spent years sharing my knowledge through workshops and educational programs for professional photographers. Teaching has become an inseparable part of my creative journey — a way to share, inspire, and keep evolving together with the next generation of storytellers.

Based in Greece but working across continents, I’ve had the privilege of photographing love stories all around the world — always together with Kathreen, my wife and creative partner. We share the same passion for storytelling and travel, finding inspiration in the diversity of people, cultures, and light we encounter wherever we go.
Over the years, I’ve collaborated with brands that share my dedication to creativity and innovation — including Sony, Godox, Pixieset, Fundy, and now Evoto. Each partnership has been a different kind of creative dialogue — a chance to grow, to share ideas, and to contribute to a broader community of photographers who love what they do and constantly push for better.

Evoto — The Most Revolutionary AI Editing Tool I’ve Ever Used
Evoto has become an essential part of my editing workflow — not just because it’s powerful, but because it redefines what intelligent editing can be. It’s the most game-changing AI tool I’ve ever used, combining automation, precision, and artistic awareness in a way that feels genuinely made for photographers.
In wedding photography, time and consistency are everything. I often work with thousands of images per event, and Evoto allows me to handle that scale effortlessly while keeping my signature style intact.
Here’s how it fits naturally into my process:
• Culling
After importing my full gallery, I begin with Evoto’s New AI Culling tool, which quickly identifies the strongest frames. It helps me narrow down thousands of images to the most expressive, emotional moments — yet I always remain in control of the final selection.
• Retouching
This is where Evoto truly shines. It’s not just one click — it’s full, intelligent control. Each person in the frame is automatically detected and separated, allowing me to adjust individual features with precision — skin, eyes, lips, teeth, hair, and even lighting balance. Every slider feels natural and responsive. I can fine-tune the look of a single subject — for example, perfect the bride’s portrait exactly the way I want — and then instantly synchronize that retouching across all her images in the gallery.
On top of that, I’ve created my own retouching presets that include all my preferred adjustments, so in just one click I can apply a complete, natural-looking edit that fits my style perfectly.
• Color Adjustments
After retouching, I move into the Color Adjustments panel, where I shape the overall tone and atmosphere of the image. Sometimes I use my own presets that reflect my visual identity; other times I make manual adjustments through the sliders for highlights, shadows, and saturation — or I combine everything with the help of Evoto’s AI Color Match, which is simply outstanding. It brings color harmony and balance even in complex lighting situations, adapting beautifully to every environment.
• Clothing & Accessories
I also love the Clothing & Accessories Adjustment panel, which is surprisingly powerful. It can smooth out wrinkles, remove dust, fix small stains, and give a polished yet realistic finish — all without affecting the texture or mood of the image.
Once I’m happy with the look, I can synchronize my settings across the entire gallery, choosing exactly what to apply — only color adjustments, only retouching, or everything together. I’ve also built full presets that include all steps — color grading, retouch, clothing refinements — so with one click, I can bring a full wedding gallery to life, consistent and ready for delivery.
What makes Evoto truly revolutionary is how it balances AI power with human vision. Most software tries to correct — Evoto understands. It enhances reality without distorting it, keeping every image alive and emotionally true.
It’s not just fast — it’s transformative. And that’s what makes it the most revolutionary AI editing tool I’ve ever worked with.
From Editing Speed to Emotional Precision
What makes Evoto stand out is not only its speed but its precision. It helps me work efficiently, but never mechanically. Every adjustment feels like an extension of my artistic vision.
I now spend less time editing and more time creating. That means more focus on my couples, more energy for storytelling, and more clarity to keep evolving as an artist. Evoto helps me maintain my creative flow even when managing high-volume projects — something that once felt impossible.
For photographers who value both artistry and emotion, Evoto is a genuine game-changer. It doesn’t replace creativity — it gives it room to grow.
Closing Thoughts
Photography has always been a dance between light and feeling — between precision and imperfection. Evoto understands that dance. It’s not just another editing platform; it’s a creative companion that amplifies emotion instead of hiding it.
As an Evoto Ambassador, I’m proud to represent a brand that bridges technology and artistry — helping photographers stay authentic, inspired, and ready for what’s next.
